Music Mondays: Jeff Schmuck

1/4/2010

Hello and welcome to Ski The East's first installment of "Music Mondays." Each week we'll be featuring the musical tastes of athletes, industry insiders, and rippin' North East locals. Our goal with this feature is to introduce some new music into our readers' ear buds. Whether it be the next biggest thing or the localest best kept secret, we'll be featuring it here in this space. And to make things even better, The Ski Show on wbkm.org will be playing music featured in this column on Tuesday nights from 9-11 pm. Know a great band or have a suggestion? Email mike@skitheeast.net and share your musical treasure chest with the Ski The East community.  Without further ado, let's get to it!

Jeff Schmuck, editor of Newschoolers.com

This week's Music Monday is from Jeff Schmuck, editor of the notorious Newschoolers.com. Schmuck called Montreal his home for a year and ripped Jay Peak and Mount Snow when he wasn't jet setting across the globe like a male version of Paris Hilton (that reference is sooo last decade but 2010 hasn't provided a new celebrity partier unless Glibert Arenas' gun fun is considered "partying"). Music is a big part of Schmuck's life whether he's waiting in Egyptian customs or hunkered down working on his next NS article. Here, with some heavy metal fun, is Jeff Schmuck. Enjoy!

Top 5 songs I'm listening to:

1. Adam Lambert - Aftermath
2. Steel Panther - Party All Day
3. Motley Crue - Face Down In The Dirt
4. Shiny Toy Guns - Ghost Town
5. Empire State of Mind - Jay-Z

The song that reminds me of skiing the most is: Mobb Deep - Shook Ones Part II...It might be cliche to say it, but I can't hear that song or even the backtrack without thinking of the segment that solidified Tanner as one of skiing's best.

You might be surprised to know, I have Lady Gaga in my music library.

If I had the closing segment in a ski film, my segment song would be: Firehouse - All She Wrote

A local music act in Vancouver that I'm listening to is: SonReal...a rapper from Vernon.

Even though no one listens to albums anymore, one album I recommend listening to is: U2 - Achtung Baby
