East Not Done - Jay Peak Re-Opening April 28-29
Bullwheel in the Sky Keeps on Turning
Words by Alex Kaufman l STE Online Editor
Hey you. Yeah you. The skiers who keep coming out and want the mountains to keep turning lifts. Time to put some funds where your mouth is and come back for more. The dedicated skiers in PA and NY are getting some one-day fresh at Seven Springs and human powered. It seems the party will continue in New England as well. Jay Peak, apparently, isn't ready to thrown in the towel. Here's the latest from the horses mouth. The horse being Steve Wright, their Veep of Marketing, Sales and occasional on-message sarcasm. - AK

Have you guys made a call for the upcoming weekend?
Yes, we’re going to open Sat and Sun.
What's the scene like on these last hurrah efforts?
Generally pretty hard corps folks. Minimalists for sure. And everyone is always happy – regardless of what we have - they’re happy to have at all.
Got details on weekend tix/operations?
2 trails for the advanced. A BBQ right at the base of the Jet and music. Tix are $25 all ages. The ski/splash option is $49 adult and $39 junior.
How's it looking up there snow-wise? Recent storm did/doing what?
Spit a few flurries today - might get some rain midweek but some snow too. Cold evening temps will help preserve. But there’s a good amount of snow up there.
You calling this the "final weekend" or thinking May?
Not the final weekend; let’s just call it another weekend.
I'm guessing there's a weekend package of some kind. Pitch it.
$129 gets you two lift tickets and a suite in the Tram Haus Lodge. A little but more gets you into the new Hotel Jay with waterpark access if that’s your bag.
A la Yankees V Red Sox, what does the "late as possible" skiing crown mean to the mountains as compared to the fans/skiers?
Probably means something different to everyone. For guests it’s another chance at lift accessed obviously. For the mountains, it’s probably just sound and fury. It’s nice to be last, but we’re just happy to be able to keep going for the sake of going to be honest. It doesn’t take much - just the interest in doing it at all separates us to a large extent.
