Stowe Backcountry

So I'm going to Stowe this February and I want to ski the backcountry that I see in the meathead films and that everybody talks about. I have no clue about any of it tho. Can anybody explain where to go and what to do? Should I talk to some locals? Are there backcountry tours that Stowe does? Like how does anybody learn about it?

Book: David Goodmans backcountry skiing Vermont & New York
It gives some trails worth doing at stowe but does not mention the chin, otherwise talk to some locals.

Wekk first id like to know your abaility? cause there are spots in the stowe back country area that are tight an twisty and yuo really need to be able to react fast and with precession. It is not for beginers or intermediate skiers and riders. And always go in the woods with a cell phone and friend. With that said look all over the runs of the ganjula. Cliff trail has great woods as does and chin clip but agin this are off property and you if get hurt its your wallet that pays for the resuce.
That book above is great it lists the classic vt stowe trails such as bruce and traild drop. But if we dont get hit with some serious snow i woulnt bother going in the woods because the locals have done a job of getting the runs tracked out

thanks for the replies. I'm deffinately like high advanced im not sure about expert. Like something that challenged me was kinsman glade at cannon, but i did it pretty well it was just technical and i had to take it slow because it wasnt open so it had some exposed stumps and stuff. And i dont care if tracks arent fresh, i really just want to find some trees that have soft snow and good cover. I saw a few vids of people in the stowe bc, and some people were sayin that its dangerous and if u dont know where u r in stowe trees to get out, and thats the only reason why im hesitant about going in there exploring and not knowing where its gunna lead

and is hiking to the summit of mansfield and skiing back down to the top of the gondola an option or does it have to be like a huge dump that day for it to work?

there are countless lines that cliff out in both the kitchen wall and in areas descending from the chin. it's the real deal in both of those zones and depending on the snowpack, tree wells can be a big hazard too due to less skier traffic in those areas. would be best to go with someone who knows the terrain well.
exploring is definitely least dangerous in the woods off of chin clip because of the high traffic (which creates a more stable snowpack) and less technical lines. if you're venturing up to the chin, notch, or kitchen wall, absolutely bring the holy trinity: shovel, probe, and avie beacon. and ride with no less than 3 people.
not trying to be a downer, just spittin realness. have fun exploring man.
