A new version of this site will be launching pretty soon (July as planned now) and we have loads of new features, designs and functionality going into the project.
To all the members out there: what are your ideas that could make this website and community more interesting, valuable to you, and easier to use?
Thanks for your support and help! Keep the shred alive...

i like the constantly rotating weekly top video /photos
how about a weather summary page? there is lots of weather info on the site which was useful this past winter but being able to access a summary would be $$ .... like josh fox's mad river glen single chair blog:
http://madriverglenweather.blogspot.com/
although josh fox is pretty detailed... something a bit easier would be something like the surf forecasts at nesurf.com:
http://www.nesurf.com/index.php/forecasts
they do a sentence or two summary just so you have an idea something might be coming then if you scroll down they go into more detail day by day

Just echoing the idea to be able to edit posts...edit and delete. For some reason, sometimes I'm a moron and double post accidently. I've seen other people do this too. It just looks silly.

have some weekly/daily/whenever/steady updates from mountian employee's or on the hill folks talking about whats happening and coming up at thier home. More or less a general blog type thing form each resort updated by resort workers. For instance someone in marketing or special events from Jay(I.E. Brian) could contribute as often as possible to keep the community informed more so than just the standard crap we all see on the resort website.
Be able to form groups like JAY PEAK or MRG or STOWE that could act as seperate threads viewable only to members of that group. Keep the loyal folks and thier discussions private from others.
A area that provides info(more than just links) to things like Avy-1 and other courses and BC ofering type things maintained by STE.
More event info and updates such as comps and happenings before they happen. So tell folks to check out a MHF athlete in an upcoming comp or something like that. I never seem to know when crap like that is happening and wouold like to see some stuff like that.
Organize YOU OWN COMPS! THIS IS SKI THE EAST after all. Stick itout there and dont be afraid to get it cut off. Closed to the public events are LAME!!!!!!!!!!!! Let the masses see more.

Jeff, I like the share-a-ride idea that MRG has somewhere on their site. A lot more people would be exposed to that concept if it was incorporated into this site.
It's a cool way to encourage car pooling and meeting people.

STE.net is looking good for sure and the features are tight. maybe try to convey the fact that you actually sell stuff so you can make some money to be able to add some of these insane features that everyone's talking about, more contest, sales and email blasts. Content is king so continue to partner with marketing people, athletes, out of work ski bums, and enthusiasts at mountains, shops and clubs to get them to use (and link to) STE making it truely the online hub of east coast skiing.
OK, that was kind of a tangent but are things to consider while moving forward. Great work for year 1 and am stoked for the future!

I would run a photo contest for members to send in photos of ski the east stickers on the most unlikely things, locations, settings. It would promote your brand virally, perhaps stimulate sticker sales and be fun for all us.
Thanks,
Vin

There should be a RIDE SHARE section to the ski hills. If we want snow to keep on falling instead of rain this would be great!
Also there could be a hotel/lodge/house share sections for people willing to split costs and a ski buddy section, for those lonely skiers where, you could post where you're going on a given day and what type of skier you are.

i suggest having the hyperlinks as mentioned above with a page that gives vital info (mountain stats, conditions,) with links to photos, videos, and trailmaps. tagging photos/videos similar to facebook, with a specific local (only allow one of these, i.e. sugarbush, or white mountain backcountry, etc.), as well as the people in the photos...that way people or specific areas can be viewed. example: i post video of myself and jon from paradise woods at sugarbush. my name, his name and sugarbush should be hyperlinks...paradise woods should not be a hyperlink. neither should an identifier like a date or weather description.
i think developing an area that really focuses on the backcountry areas all around would be nice. example, sugarbush has the back basin known as slide brook. it would be nice to have a place that gives info about it, open/close, requirements...and maybe some local knowledge about it. resort info on these places is usually terrible. the slides at whiteface would be another such area. but these are 'inbounds'. i also want to see areas that are full on backcountry discussed. i am looking for info that includes vertical, best way to hike in, open or lots of trees (riding in the trees, or is it woods skiing?), quantity of runs, best time to go... i think all of us that are interested in this stuff are looking to find places we haven't been, and to cross paths with people that have the same interest. and i think it will need to open for comments, as people will want to share their knowledge or experiences.
the bottom line -- if i click a link to look at the slides at whiteface, i want to also be able to read shared knowledge, see video and photos, and have the best conditions updates as possible. maybe it rained at the base of whiteface, but dumped up top...maybe your site has that info and we all have one extra good day...

Thanks for all your ideas everyone. We're taking everyone's input and trying to make the site the best, most user friendly, and most fun.
As far as the speed of the site, the server was just hardware upgraded last night and should be infinitely better today! Hope that is the case for all of you...

I must admit that the site is quite slow as well, maybe look at changing your hosting or use a dedicated server?

Our website above had similiar problems so we changed to www.rochen.com hosting and it has been so much quicker..

maybe the ability to "like" pictures of faceshots, backies, etc. fb style rather than rate them.
